The roaming regulation introducing regulated prices for international roaming services and transparency requirements will be revised for the third time. The Commission is proposing new additional measures, focusing on making the market more competitive for instance by introducing mandatory wholesale access, service unbundling so that customers can buy roaming services from their normal operator. The discussions between the Commission, the Council and the Parliament are now reaching a final phase. The new regulation should enter into force on the 1st July 2012.
Over breakfast, the discussion focused on the main elements and rational of the new revision of the Roaming regulation, outlined main outcomes of compromise reached between the 3 institutions, and explained the items and time table for the items BEREC/Commission have to work out.
